Personal Protection Tools

by Sonny B Juhl

Who said that self-defense needed one to personally fend an attack? Just recently, I realized that I can be safe without having to learn karate or fire a gun. I can effectively protect myself, my loved ones, and my property with available gadgets.

It took me a lot of prodding before my anti-gun wife was convinced that a stun gun cannot kill anyone. Women must have them as personal protection tools. My wife was finally sold to the idea that she would be safer with one in her bag.

Aside from a stun gun, there are other available personal protection tools like a safety light or a safety alarm for younger persons. My wife opted for the other tools and not a stun gun for our teenage girl.

Our small bakery downtown did not experience any problem for two years until one of the regular customers said she lost her purse inside the bakery while choosing some pastries. The unresolved case made us decide to install a DVR hidden camera to record activities inside the bakery.

Since our business was just a small one and closed after seven in the evening, we did not need a motion-activated alarm or a high resolution surveillance camera. Those kinds of gadgets would be useful in large businesses that carried expensive wares or kept valuable equipment.

Criminals are discouraged from doing bad things when they are aware that people are using personal protection tools for self-defense.

Everyone in my family and our small business had been enjoying the benefits of the safety gadgets. Although we had not used any of them to hurt any bad person, we still kept them.

Hurting someone was the last thing in my mind; therefore, using these personal protection tools as deterrence was enough for me. But I believed that it was better to be ready than sorry.
