In 2006 I decided to start working with a few friends of mine to start a small design shop. One of the clients that we have is an event called Foo Fest in Rhode Island. We make a little bit of money but we do it mostly for fun as long as we don't have any major losses.
We run things online but rent a small place over at Mathewson St. that we use as a store room. We only ever go there to deposit or retrieve materials we need.
When we found out there had been a robbery two doors away, we realized the naivete of securing our store room with nothing more than a lock and key. We decided it was time to buy some real self defense devices to protect our business.
While shopping for a security alarm system online, I came across diversion safes, which are safes made to look like something else to divert attention from them. They resemble everyday items in look and feel, down to the weight.
Imagine a safe that looks like an authentic book, soda can or flower pot. Ironically, they are fake common items providing real self defense. Those are just some of the designs of diversion safes that caught my eye.
Diversion safes have removable tops and bottoms for storing valuables like money and jewelry. We ordered more than a few not only for money but also keys to our different storage rooms. Now that's real self defense for small entrepreneurs.
We also ordered safes to keep our bank account numbers in, these safes look like food items such as Pringles containers and Arizona Tea containers. We keep these in the pantry so divert criminals.
Even if the robbers opened the kitchen cabinets, my diversion safes look like countless other food items that are in there. After all, real self defense is protection that criminals would never see coming.
