Defense Against Knvies and StabbingThe purpose of this article is to explore a simple yet effective way to confront and escape an encounter against someone pulling a knife and wanting to harm you.
Unfortunately, stabbings still occur in society today. As quoted from a recent news story: "On March 22 at 4:18p, paramedics responded for a 19 year old man who had been stabbed. He was treated and transported to the hospital." How best can we as individuals respond to such occurences and protect ourselves? While one could opt to carry a knife as well, this would result in a hand to hand knife combat situation, probably resulting in serious wounds to both parties invovled. Some would prefer to carry a firearm, but this presents multiple problems since a license is required and many premises ban guns entirely. Furthermore, shooting and killing someone with a knife would present numerous legal problems alone. One solution is to carry pepper spray. It's quick, effective, and allows one to remove theirselves from the situation rapidly. It's also the right distance. For instance, if someone were to pull a knife out and they were standing anywhere from three to six feet away, this gives you several seconds to respond by removing your pepper spray, arming it, and if one chooses, to release several shots in their direction. There is little to do in defense of pepper spray besides retreating or getting it in their eyes, in which vision is impaired (due to the natural desire to close their eyes), and extreme burning through the nose and mouth. This gives the attacked upon a chance to get away to safety and if lucky, call for help and have the assailant taken away. We recommend purchasing several canisters of pepper spray and encourage customers to try one in a safe environment in order to familiarize theirselves with the operations and use of the pepper spray.
